Watercolor Artist · Germany
I am Dmitriy Baum, a watercolor artist based in Germany. My work explores the relationship between historic architecture, personal emotion and the stories that places carry through time.
My journey into a painting begins with a feeling — an atmosphere I discover in a particular place. I then explore its architecture and history, learning about the people whose lives were connected with it.
I do not seek simply to reproduce a castle or palace as it appears in reality. Instead, I interpret it through my own artistic vision, allowing historical facts, imagination and emotion to come together.
Watercolor is central to this approach. Its transparency, delicate layers and interplay of light allow me to express the harmony, romance and occasional drama of historic places.
Behind the walls of every castle, I see more than architecture. I see dreams, ambitions, love, rivalry, courage and the passage of time. These human stories give each painting its own emotional character.
My aim is to invite viewers to look beyond the building itself and discover their own feelings and associations within the image.
Since 2007, I have presented my work in seven solo exhibitions in Germany's Rhine-Main region. Today, my artistic focus includes a collection of watercolors inspired by German castles, palaces and historic places.
Through my paintings, I hope to build a bridge between the past and the present — one transparent layer of watercolor at a time.
